Why You Should Use A Safety Razor
I was a safety razor skeptic…….
How can one blade be as good as 5? Is this thing going to rip my face apart? Why is it called a “safety razor”? Is that a box cutter blade being marketed as a razor blade for your face?
I am now a safety razor advocate. Below are four reasons why.
A SAFETY RAZOR WORKS BETTER
The “Razor Blade Cartel” as I call them have spent millions of dollars over the last few decades trying to convince us unsuspecting consumers that the more blades your razor has, the better the shave. On the face of it, that logic kind of makes sense. But in practice, it just doesn’t work that way.
Think about it this way. Let’s say you wanted to cut a single strand of hair. How many blades would you need to do it? Five? Six? You would need only one. So what is the purpose of having 6 blades on a cartridge razor? If you have one sharp blade and it is running across your face at the correct angle, then there is no need to have 5 more blades trailing behind it.
Let’s talk about that “correct” angle. With a cartridge razor you can only shave at one angle, because they are stacked and leaning at the predetermined angle from the manufcaturer. With a safety razor you can adjust the angle of that one blade with ease. Which of course allows for a smoother shave with less passes across the skin.
A SAFETY RAZOR CAUSES FAR LESS SKIN IRRITATION
This is actually very easy to explain. If you are shaving with a 6 bladed cartridge razor and you take two passes across your face, you have the equivalent 12 blades that have been run across your skin. Presumably at the wrong angle on certain parts of your face. With a safety razor you can get the same, if not a better shave, with those same two passes. However since there is only one blade on a safety razor, you have the equivalent of only 2 blades that have been run across your face. Which scenario is likely to cause more skin irritation? The cartridge razor of course!
USING A SAFETY RAZOR IS CHEAPER IN THE LONG RUN
In fact, if you buy our safety razor, it is cheaper to use in the short run as well.
Buy our One Upper safety razor for $12
Sign up for our $3 per month box of 10 blades. 10 blades per month should be plenty.
Annual blade purchase cost = $36
Safety Razor Purchase = $15
Total Cost for the first year $51
Second year cost will be only the cost of the blades. 12 x $3 = $36
